Our Manifesto

Discover refreshing water sources near you.

Free, clean water should be easy to find, for everyone. OpenFountain exists to make that true — starting with a simple, beautiful map of public drinking fountains and refill points. This is our promise and our plan.

Why we exist

  • People deserve free access to water without friction.
  • Bottled water is wasteful — for wallets and for the planet.
  • Public infrastructure is valuable only if it’s visible and usable.
  • Technology should make the good things obvious, nearby, and reliable.

What we believe

  1. Accessibility by default — No paywalls. No accounts required to browse.
  2. Open data — We favor open standards.
  3. Transparency — Clear language, clear policies, clear intentions.
  4. Sustainability — We encourage refilling, repairing, and reusing.

What we do

  • Maintain a fast map of public fountains and refill points.
  • Provide clear status, notes, and accessibility hints when available.
  • Work with cities, institutions, and stewards of public spaces to improve coverage and quality.

What’s next

  • Better offline support for low‑connectivity areas.
  • More detailed accessibility and water‑quality notes where possible.
  • Partnerships to integrate trustworthy public data sources.
  • A gentle API for civic projects and research.

Our commitment

We’ll keep OpenFountain

  • free to use,
  • simple to understand,
  • respectful of your time,
  • and oriented toward the public good.
